Both are longtime serving captains on Canadian teams, which means more scrutiny and pressure. Both are two way, all around players, although Iginla would get an edge in the tough department. Alfie would get the edge in the skill department in my opinion. Both have made one Stanley Cup Finals appearance (both lost) and both are their respective teams all time leading scorer.
Well when I heard that Iginla became the Flames all time leading scorer the other day and heard the point total I was shocked. Jarome has 834 career points as of today, with 922 career games. Good for .90 points a game for his career. Pretty decent for sure, especially in this day and age. However, Daniel Alfredsson has 903 points in 912 career games, which is .99 points per game over his career.
So why does Alfie get so little love in the league? It's not right at all. Nothing against Iginla, he's by all accounts a great guy (which I can confirm when I met him) and a great all around player, but so is Alfie. However Iginla is always viewed as the much better player. Most see him as a top 5 guy in the league but Alfie is never mentioned, despite the fact they are very similar players and Alfie outscores him by 10% per game over their careers. The numbers simply don't add up.
This isn't hating on Iggy, it's loving Alfie. He doesn't get the respect he deserves and it's a shame. Just another chapter in the legend of ALFstradamus.
ALFIE ALFIE ALFIE!!!
