Bingo Bound

Yesterday we discussed the possibilities, today reality has set it. Sens prospect Erik Karlsson has been sent to the Binghamton Senators of the AHL. I think we can all agree this will help his development and get him valuable experience. He became expendable with Filip Kuba finally ready to return for tomorrow night's game against Florida. Hopefully young Erik works hard and gains some confidence down in Bingo. If he does well, he will be back with the big club in no time. Here is the official press release concerning the demotion.

In the long run, I see this as the best thing for Karlsson and for the Sens. What do you guys think? I know it got a great back and forth going yesterday in the comments, so what do you have to say now that it's official? Good move or bad move?

I think it's a fantastic move by Murray.

Not only does this keep E.K. close at hand, so he can be somewhat closely monitored, it also gives him the exposure to the NA-style of gameplay that he needs. Sending him home to Sweden wouldn't be doing him any favours, as he would be put right back into his comfort zone, and he just can't mature as an NHL'er in that scenario. He needs prominent minutes, without the intense media scrutiny that would have come his way, had he stayed with the big club, playing only PP and minimal 5 on 5 minutes.

My personal feeling is that one or more of Picard, Campoli & Lee will be moved out during the season, or even at the deadline, and that Special K will be back with the Sens to end the season, as a sort-of end-of-year tryout session, just to guage how far along he's come, thanks to his time in Bingo.

Just my two cents worth, though.

A move that had to be made. He needs more ice time than the 6ish minutes he was getting per game. He needs to learn, bulk up and understand the north american game. Clearly he has the talent, but not the experience, yet. He's a valuable asset that needs to be properly managed. It'll be interesting to see how he & Lee will do in Bingo on the pplay. He may even come back this season depending on his play. G'luck Eric.

I think this is a good move, he showed potential with some of the passes he made; however, he definitely needs to get stronger so he is not forced off the puck so easily, and some confidence.

glad he was sent down, didnt look good in the NHl this year at all. He needs to improve and not be so cocky and a season of riding buses and playing hard will make him appareciate it more

good move, the guy needs to learn that nothing comes easy in the NHL. Spezza learned that and has matured into a great leader on the team. I like the idea of Karlsson and Lee playing together in Bingo. I also feel that Lee should be called up before Karlsson because #1 Lee is on a two-way contract, #2 Lee showed that he can play at this level last year, and finally, Lee is bigger and stronger. And for god sakes BM, don't listen to the idiots asking for Lee to be traded.
