The cream always rises to the top and that's what happened tonight, as the Flyers took us down 5-1 tonight (which I almost predicted, I said 5-2). Once again, the story was the poor play of Pascal Leclaire. Now don't get me wrong, I think he's a good goalie and he did make multiple good saves, but he's also guilty of allowing soft ones that kill our momentum. Tonight it was the first 2 goals, definitely his fault and goals we can't have if we expect to go anywhere this season. It's a shame if you just looked at the score, because for quite awhile I thought we were playing a good, solid road game. We played hard and smart, but just didn't muster enough scoring chances to put Ray Emery to the test. He was solid but unspectacular in his first game against his former club, but mostly because he didn't need to be. He made the saves when he needed to and more importantly, didn't let in a soft one.
Is it me or is time to let Donovan back in the lineup? We surely miss his speed and hard work. I for one think we're much better with him playing. And despite what Murray says, I still think we need another defenceman, although we could definitely use another forward as well.
Just wondering, is Kovalev ever going to try again? Or only when we play Montreal.
In the end, we were beaten by a better team and there are positives to take away from this game, despite the score. This game was a measuring stick, and what we found out is we aren't good enough at this point in time.
Thoughts?

I agree. We're not there yet. I don't think a trade will make the difference. Line stability over a longer term will help. Spezza continues to impress.
If Pascal Leclaire is really 6'2" he does a really good job of making himself look small in the net.
If BM really said he does not think we need another D I think it is clearly time we got another GM.
id say Lecalire is 6'2, ive seen him a few times out shopping and he his quite tall and lanky, like skinny but still fairly tall
I agree about Spezza, he played well tonight, where was alfie and michalek?
Are the Sens trying to be the most boring team in the NHL. You can tell the players are not really enthusiastic about the Sens style, it is just brutal. Maybe they should go go back to the 2-man forecheck CCC had them playing when he first joined the team. I don't know maybe that might get Kovalev more involved. Also, the Sens are not built to be a trapping team. This year the Sens have played their best on the cycle, and to get the cycle going they have to establish an effective forecheck. The Sens just do not have the speed throughout their lineup that is required to capitalize consistently of turnovers created by trap.
Ok, while I agree that several of the goals (1st, 2nd, 5th) were all soft to a degree, I don't think that was the main reason why we lost.
Ottawa was dominated all game long. With the exception of Fisher, Ottawa was second to every loose puck. Our breakouts looked slow and tentative. Our forecheck was ineffective. And our defense looked *so* slow.
Saddest ever observation: Kovalev reminded me of Jason Allison tonight. He seemed to be dragging some invisible sandbags. Thanks for that Melnyk. Next off season, shut up already and let other people sign players.
Hambown,
I hear what you're saying and I agree. I think we play better when we put pressure on other teams personally, but to say 3 of the 5 goals were easily stoppable and not the reason we lost?
Then again, not gonna win too many games when you can only score 1
The Flyers have the most annoying goal horn I have ever heard. Though I am not sure how it compares to fire breathing buffalos.
Hopefully the fans give LeClaire a huge chorus of booes the next time he starts. Also they should give him a bronx cheer ever time he stops an easy shot.
Also has Murray every considered firing Eli Wilson? He has been here about 3 plus years now and the goaltenders have gotten worse since he been here.
wake up you puke heads - leclaire is an absolute joke. when you let in three goals that a peewee goalie should stop, against a team with Chris Pronger on Defence, you are never ever going to win that hockey game. period.
murray should dress donovan? frak off man. Murray should dress elliot or you, or me, to play goal until leclaire can locate his lost glasses. brutal just brutal.
by the way, scross down a few posts to your 'slick w' post and you'll see i gave you a warning about leclaire then. here is another warning - the guy is NOT a playoff goalie. he's now proven he's too unreliable to play nets in the playoffs.
what a disaster. hopefully this will be the straw that finally gets murray fired.
