GDP #14: Sens V Jersey

The Sens welcome the New Jersey Devils and their red hot record to SBP tonight for a 7pm matchup. The Devils won all 4 meetings with the Sens last year, hopefully a streak that ends tonight.

The Devils are an impressive 10-4 this season, including 7-0 on the road, the only unbeaten team in the league, which means the Sens will have all they can handle tonight. Even more remarkable is that they've continued their winning ways with a rash of injuries to may key players. Rob Niedermayer, Patrick Elias, Paul Martin, Jay Pondalfo and Johnny Odouya, will all not play tonight for New Jersey. I don't know how they do it, but they always manage to stay competitive. Of course the person to watch is Zach Parise for the Devils. While were at it, what's up with their mascot? The Devil is smiling, cammmmman. And how in the ultra PC United States, is there not a crazy Christian group demanding they change their name? Questions I'll never get answers to unfortunately.

On the Sens side of things, there are a few changes. Despite some speculation, Cheechoo remains in the lineup for the time being, but he is living on borrowed time in my opinion. Shean Donovn and Ryan Shannon are the healthy scratches for tonight. The lines for the game are:

Michalek-Spezza-Alfredsson
Foligno-Fisher-Kovalev
Cheechoo-Regin-Neil
Ruutu-Kelly-Winchester

Not too many changes other then Winchester getting his first action of the year and Foligno getting some 2nd line time. Every game Michalek grows on me, I'm glad we have him on our team, he's a great talent and a hard worker. So much easier to root for then lazy Dany. Cheechoo needs to score and fast or he will be sitting.

The goalie matchup is a stellar one, Pascal Leclaire Vs Martin Brodeur, who worries me since tonight he can tie the all time shutout mark of 103 with a clean sheet against us. In case you were wondering, he is 31-18-4 all time against the Sens, with 6 career shutouts. Oh ya, Pascal grew up idolizing Brodeur so let's hope he shows that the student has become the teacher.

Puck Drop is 7:07pm and the game is on CBC and The Team 1200

Prediction: Sens hand the Devils their first road loss of the season 3-1

I think we got shafted by the refs tonight. However, some of the blame has to fall on the Sens who have to find a way to stop taking so many penalties. I think Spezza played pretty well and this was the best game I have seen from Kovalev since Montreal.

Kovalev worked harder but forgot how to pass. Spezza played great, the refs somehow missed Alfredsson getting wacked in the head. Now the question becomes, when will the Mayor predict a Sens loss.

Cheechoo got lapped about 6 times tonight, obviously his main problem is that he might be the only player Hall Gill could beat in a footrace. Look at the downturn in or PK since the A-Train went down, just shows how valuable he is.
