In what amounts to awful luck, Shean Donovan was injured with only minutes left in Thursday's game by Matt Cooke, on an ugly knee on knee hit. Somehow, Cooke managed to avoid a penalty and suspension, while Donovan is left with a serious injury, one that had threatened his career perhaps. But there is good news. He won't requite surgery and he will only be out 6-8 weeks with damage to his MCL, instead of the season or forver, as first thought possibly. It's a shame, Donovan was really providing a much needed spark for us as of late. Sens Town wished Donovan a speedy recovery and for Matt Cooke to get what's coming to him.Thoughts?

Hopefully Donovan can come back and be healthy, he is a very reliable 4th-liner. I don't know what those idiots on the Pit broadcast were seeing when they said Donovan tried to avoid the hit, he did not change his path (no time) and Cooke just hit him knee on knee. Like they said that is Cooke's game, taking cheap shots that is.
- The broadcasters were excellent, even with their slightly homerish take on the Cooke/Donovan collision (and the hilarious pronounciation of Pee-Card). These guys really knew their hockey, their Sens and their broadcasting! Can someone PLEASE hold open the eyelids of the HNIC crew on CBC and force them to watch this broadcast? This is how you do a game not involving the Leafs.
- The loss of Donovan is huge. I can't think of another 8-minute-a-game veteran fourth liner earning peanuts in the NHL that means more to the success of his team. Now the Sens have a fourth line which will scare no-one (Cheechoo-Regin-Winchester), something they have managed to avoid most of the season. This was a competitive advantage for the Sens, being able to throw a line like Ruutu-Kelly-Donovan on the ice against another team's weakest forwards and D. All 4 lines could generate something. Now, we have to hope Regin and Winnie can get some sparks going or lose that advantage.
- The Sens D mostly held up against the Pens, aside from scoring half the goals on regular wrist shots. The Sabres have a good bunch of guys that can make D look bad, either with big hits or nice moves, so the challenge is on. Please HEAL, Volchy!
- Can the Sens pull out a "surprise fourth jersey" that is Blue and White to scare Lalime?
The announcers were crap, they were more than slightly homerish. There were times when it sounded like they didn't notice when Ottawa scored. Maybe they "knew their stuff" but play by play guys are supposed to add some excitement to the game. Maybe if you are a Penguins fan than they would be great but otherwise they are far from it. I agree the CBC Ottawa broadcast is also lacking.
