GDP #35: Sens V Minnesota

From Martin Brodeur and his record setting 1,030th career start last night, to Mike Brodeur and his 1st career start tonight. That's how weird things can get in the NHL, as the Sens take on the Minnesota wild and Martin Havlat tonight.

For a minute, we didn't even know if the game would take place, as as many as 11 players had their equipment burned in a fire so bad that they would not be able to use it tonight, including their star goalie Backstrom. The game will go on as scheduled, as Minne's new gear arrived this morning at 9am.

No other changes tonight to the lineup tonight. I hope we give Martin Havlat a warm welcome, as he was a very important piece to a lot of our success in the past.

Prediction: This one is hard to predict. We're still missing a few players and we have a goalie making his NHL debut, but on the other hand, they will have half the team in new equipment, which is a major advantage. I say the Sens win 4-3.

Follow me on Twitter: www.twitter.com/SensTown I will be updating it throughout the game from SBP.

Thoughts on tonights game?

Prediction, Havlat kicks someone, surprised he hasn't kicked Cammelari yet.

Though the Wild did not have that many great chances, Brodeur played great. He challenged shooters, tracked pucks and did a great job controlling rebounds.

Mr. Mayor, the CBC guys said the John Michael Liles is on the trading block and I was wondering if you think the Sens should/will try to acquire hm?

Not JM Liles...please! Another Offensive D-Man that plays soft and is a defensive liability? There is a place for these guys on a roster, but only a few of them in a 5-6-7 role. The Sens already have Kuba-Karlsson-Picard-Campoli...you want to add another one? What's needed is a D-Man who's solid defensively and makes players think twice about challenging him...a guy that can keep the front of the net clear and know how to avoid deflecting pucks past his own goalie.
This player should be paired with Kuba because right now Kuba-Karlsson are being taken advantage of regularly and are on the ice for a lot of goals against.
Kuba can be reliable defensively (not physical, but reliable) if he's with a stay-at-home guy.
If everyone is healthy, let Picard-Carkner-Karlsson-Campoli fight over the 5-6-7 minutes. It's likely Campoli would be gone or someone would be injured at some point, anyways. Karlsson could really use some more Bingo time, although that doesn't appear all that likely.

If the Sens got him he would have to replace Picard or Campoli... I think he is a better skater than those guys though and less likely to get beat by speed.

Not sure, if he can play the powerplay, but we need to do something to improve our awful powerplay.
