Power Played

What a horrible game. We outshoot them 46-27 and lose 4-1. How does that happen? Incroyable! They say special teams is usually the difference and tonight were they ever right. We go 0 for 7, while they go 2 for 3 and bam, that's the game. These are the type of games we need to win to make our playoff push, especially at home to mediocore teams. Especially when that medicore team is starting their back up, i smissing their number 1 defenceman and one of their top scorers. I'm just disappointed more then anything.

Other thoughts from tonight:

-Was weird seeing Ryan O'Byrne in #20 instead of his usual purse stealing #3. He was forced to change when then Habs retired the #3 of Emile Bouchard last week. Speaking of which, the Canadiens have been around for 100 years, as we've all been annoyingly made aware for the last year, and have 17 retired numbers. Weird part is 10 of those 17 have been retired since 2005. So to me, all this honoring our legends all of a sudden is a gimmick. Just sayin'

-Erik Karlsson is awful and I hate him. Sorry to all you obsessed Karlsson lovers out there but the kid is garbage right now. He's better then Lee how exactly? He gets bumped off the puck if someone breathes, he gives the puck away at an alarming rate and tonight cost us the game winning goal by taking a lousy penalty, all the while registering points at a snails pace, with zero goals. Wasn't his offensive prowess supposed to make up for him as a defensive liability? It hasn't. Oh ya by the way, we're 1-5-1 since he's been back up with us. Great move Murray, you're a genius.

-I anticipate seeing Alexei Kovalev's face on milk cartons around the city tomorrow.

-I love Alfie and always will but he had to bury some of those chances, it was unacceptable.

-We had our 8th too many men on the ice penalty of the year tonight, which put the game out of reach. Yep that's 8 too many men penalties in 29 games. I'm sure gald we're such a disciplined team where players are held accountable. Oops!

-God I hate Habs fans. Can you be more annoying and obnoxious. What are you so cocky for? Ya we're 15-14-1, in your face!!! Keep up the ole chant though, it always makes me laugh at you for your ignorant, incompetant ways. The song is spanish, which has nothing to do with you. It's a soccer song, that has nothing to do with you. You sound like morons, keep it up.

-While we're on the Hab hate front, good thing they aren't official scorers for the NHL. Since Hab fans seem to think crossing the red line is a scoring chance and reason to celebrate.

-I thought Jesse Winchester had a great game tonight.

-How long til Pascal returns?

-Attendance for the game was 18,866. Can't even sell out the Habs anymore.

All in all it was a night to forget, which I'm going to try and do. Thoughts on tonight's game?

Kovie was pretty invisible, but he has to be on the powerplay. Maybe he has been to preoccupied with his workout DVD or whatever that is.

Bringing Karlsson up was a downright terrible move. Obviously, he can skate and make plays, but right now he is too small. As soon as someone gets to him they knock him off the puck which does not help his composure with the puck. He also needs to just learn more about when to make plays. He should be developing in the minors not using up a year of his entry contract.

They just have to bury their chances.

Good job getting that too-many-men stat, I don't understand how they keep doing it. It does seem as though lots of the time they are just gliding back to the bench, even when the opposition is racing down the ice.

I think Spezza's effort level was better this game, though he obviously needs to put some in the back of the net.

You sir are a complete idiot. Karlsson is just 19 and only is going to get better. Defenceman take a while to develop are you going to give Cowen and Wiercioch the same treatment if they struggle (which they will from time to time)? This is why no grade A UFA's/coaches/GM's want to come to play in Ottawa and I bet all of our propspects will start demanding trades so enough.

Here is an idea for you the Mayor. If you think that you can do better job with our roster than why don't apply for the job as th GM of our hockey team?

BS calls by the last 2 posters - Mayor has a good call wrt EK.

He's small, weak and defencively poor and yes someday could be a valuable addition. But leave him in the minors until that point.

I'm not a Leaf fan but Luke Schenn was NEVER that poor, on a way shittier team.

To think we could have drafted Michael Del Zotto or Tyler Ennis instead of EK - Way to go Murray, way to make yet another horrid roster decision.

First of all, players do not care what is said about them on some blog, and ripping them on the blog will in no way effect their development.

It was not a bad move drafting EK, will will not know about that for at least a few more years. It was a bad move bringing EK back up from the AHL.

First off Lee was playing alright and deserves a chance. We are also trying to win, EK is just not big enough to be successful at the NHL level right now, he gets knocked off the puck too easily.

If EK is going to be as good as so many people think he will be, than he should be in the minors right now. He obviously is not good right now, so we should not be losing a year of his entry level deal until he has become a decent NHL defenseman. The AHL is probably better for his development as well.

what the hell?,

I actually could prob do a decent job at being GM. At the very least I wouldnt let me ego get in the way and keep players here to justify my previous mistakes.

I wouldnt hand out horrible extensions and over payments to replaceable role players.

and more importantly, i wouldnt ever bring up a kid who clearly isnt ready, to a team that is on a roll and winning, esepcially when it burns a year on his rookie deal and Lee was playing better.

Being a GM isnt as hard as it's made out to be im sure.

The problem is they just recycle the same guys which is typical NHL.

They need a young motivated guy who will put in the hours, can relate more to the players.

Mayor, do you know when Murray's contract expires? Last summer there were rumours out there that Bob Nicholson would replace him. How about Mark Messier? He is a tremendous leader. Although this would be his first GM job. Might be better to have someone with at least assistant GTM experience?

Thoughts?

Hey 'What the hell' nice work there buddy . . . real intelligent comments.

Good job explaining your pov Mayor. Most of us agree with your assessment of Karlsson vs. Lee. Bonehead move by Murray all around. If the point of sending him down was to avoid the cap hit and give him a chance to develop, it makes NO SENSE to call him up!

Eli...........i believe his deal is done after next season but i cant find anywhere to conform it unfortunately, so dont quote me

J.Lemiuex....Thanks and I agree. There has to be more to the story or BM blew it really badly
