Since when are Sens-Leafs games a fast paced, skillful affair? Was I the only one who found this game to be pretty entertaining? It must have been because I thought I even heard the ACC making a Go Leafs Go chant, even if it only was for a second. That's Leaf Nation for ya.What can I say, we played well, but didn't get the breaks tonight. It happens of course, but extra bitter to take when playing TML. Extra bad news was seeing Jason Spezza hobble of the ice, one can only assume he left with a sprained hang nail.
Thoughts from the game:
-Did anyone else think Brian Elliott's impression of Patrick Lalime in game 7 on that first goal was bang on?
-Guess the refs gave us the Maple Leaf treatment tonight. No call on Komisarek for a blatant elbow to Kovie's grill or Ponikoravski for the definition of a hit from behind on Cheechoo. That's what happens when you have the NHL offices in the rink they play in. And that's not a conflict of interest how?
-Erik Karlsson continues to, well do nothing. How many chances does he get?
-If only Spezza had Alfie's heart. I'm getting tired of him trying to firepoke the puck instead of throwing a hit. He's 6ft4 and 220lbs, it's embarassing the way he plays physcially.
-Ditto to Kuba.
-I love Michalek but we miss you on the score sheet.
-Another nice game for Kovie.
So that's that. We're now 2-1 this year agianst Toronto. We have an off day tomorrow before jumping back into it against division leading Buffalo on Wednesday.

great game.
good: fish, ruutu, karlsson
bad: kuba (again), ells
meh: spezz
fish was solid on both ends tonight-notched a goal.
ruutu added grit where there seems to be a dearth.
karlsson had composure when kuba looked uncertain.
why is a guy (kuba) playing D when he doesnt hit, and can't play D. I mean, he's 6'5! come on!
And Ells looked like he was impersonating every recent Sens goalie (in a bad way). flopped like dominator. miffed like lamlime. lost his net like gerbs.
and spezz...man, my favourite player, but good gawd he is brutal with those blind passes. maybe he cant adjust to game speed as opposed to practice? the idea is right (most of the time), but his timing is off. i dunno. I'd rather see him on the shelf if it means he can regain the speed he had entering the season
Two words: pathetic turnovers
For once it was nice seeing someone else (Leafs) get what was it "2" too many men on the ice penalties Thought I was dreaming.
It seems that we're turning over the puck when certain lines are out there on the tail end of their shifts and are tiring, I don't know. But to reiterate what I said the lame turnovers killed us. Leafs were all over them.
How can anyone say Karlsson was good? He got a shot threw and skated down the ice a couple of times before turning it over instead of turning it over right away. He gets knocked off the puck like nothing, he gets caught trying to decide whether to pinch and any skating ability he has does not matter when someone can just stick an arm out and block him out. He is definitely not ready for this level.
I think that possibly Kuba does not hit because he cannot skate and would get burned, I would say he is a solid 4th defenseman but we overpay him for that.
Spezza was brutal, I am not sure if he is too lazy to battle for the puck or if he is hoping that the puck will come out of the scrum and he can take it down the ice. Anyway, I think his defensive effort has something to do with why that line gets stuck in their own end for so long.
After seeing the drive and hunger with which Mickalek played against San Jose, I think that he has not been trying hard enough lately.
Did Carkner and Picard both think that they were playing right D on the Kessel goal?
-that was a horrible line change
-karlsson is not good
-elliott's bad goal cost us
but at least we played hard and had soem jump, there were positives to take away at least
I only watched the 3rd period but I was impressed with Karlesson's skating ability: he seemed 'everywhere'. It looked like there was 3 of him on the ice at once point. Having said that he is extremely weak on the puck and gets batted around like a child...probably because he still is one! You can tell the skill is there though.
Elliot was weak yet again, thanks to Phillips for saving that sure goal late in the 3rd.
The winning goal by the leafs came as a result of a shot from the point man - Foligno was slow out to his man and as a result ended up doing a half ass job of blocking the shot. If he worked a little harder that shot never gets through. I understand NF played well during the first 2 periods, but man you can't let up on the effort in the NHL - not even for a minute. That goal and effort by NF was very dissapointing, especially since NF was just recently benched for a lack of work ethic.
Our defence is poor, very poor. Even Volchenkov looked very weak.
