Trade Winds Are Gusting

What's that you say, actual Senators news? No way!

Ok so I may have exagerated the news part, more like rumors or specualtion at this point, but anything to get us to not think about last night's Canada game right?

We all know the NHL Olympic roster freeze is in full effect but that hasn't stopped GM's from talking and making deals. Expect many to be announced as soon as the freeze has been lifted on the 28th. The Sens of course, are in the market for a defenceman, or maybe 2, though I'd settle for one.

My personal prefence would be either Pavel Kubina, Dam Hamhuis or Thomas Kaberle, the latter being pretty unlikely and would cost us and arm and a leg. Cool reference I know.

With that in mind, let's get in the mood, since the trade deadline is less then 10 days away now.

The Ottawa Citizen has compiled a list of potential players to acquire, seems we're on the same page with some, though the analysis is lacking.

Our good buddies at Silver Seven have put up a list of our past trade deadline acquisitions, it isn't pretty, though it's a really good read as always.

After reading that, you realize that although it seems sexy to pick someone up for a cup run, it basically never pans out and you are mortgaging your future. Having said that (LD), I still think we need another defenceman to have any shot this year and really, just for the future too. That is is our goaltending doesn't kill us down the stretch.

So what are your thoughts? Who would you like to see in a Sens uni and what would you be willing to give up?

Not willing to give up much as I am still not convinced we have a realistic shot, what are the odds of Elliot going on a 20 game streak in the playoffs.
Maybe Brian Lee and a late pick or two for someone like Kubina.

Also, maybe Team Canada should play some dodgeball.

Definitely don't want to contribute anything to the Leafs rebuild, Kaberle is overrated, defenseman have to play defense too..

Hamhuis/Robidas/Sedeinberg would be my pics.

They will likely go after a guy with term and a good contract. I can't see them going after a rental defenseman, expecially, since Volchy is up for renewal. Rental forward, yes, a la Cullen.

Think Heatley has a future as an analyst ahead of him with such insight: Greiss, according to Heatley, "is very good positionally. He takes away the bottom of the net; he moves side to side very well. He's got big strong legs, he pushes across really well. He's like anyone else. If you get a lot of pucks to him and get traffic in front of him and make good shots on him, you've got a chance."

How about this trade?

Ott: Leclaire, Lee, Kelly and a second

FLA: Vokoun and Ballard

I think we will need to absorb about 2 mill in cap space on it, But if we can get rid of another salary in a alternate trade?..This is possible.

I feel this addresses our 2 most major issues, Goaltending and another top 4 dman.

If he is gonna grab two - Seidenberg and Foster would be good options to get and re-sign if A-Train walks. Provided they can be had for nothing more than late picks or long shot prospects.

Worst case its 19 reg season games + playoffs.

Seidenbergs hitting and shot blocking are on par with A-train.

Imagine ...

Kelly, Lee, Sj's 2nd for Kubina

Campoli and a 4th for a Ward/Sutton/Exelby type player.
