Cheechoo Gets A Tryout

In what I found to be surprising news, former Senator Jonathan Cheechoo has recieved an invitation to an NHL training camp that begins in a few weeks. So who is the dilluisonal, I mean lucky team? It's the Dallas Stars. I thought Brett Hull was fired years ago, but maybe he is running things still secretly. It would certainly help explain the unusual choice.

So why did GM Joe Niuewendyk decide to give him the opportunity? This seems to be the telling quote: "He has shown the ability to be an effective scorer in this league. He's a competitor and we're going to give him an opportunity".

Interesting take Joe, perhaps they don't have tape of any of Cheech's games from the past 4 years in Dallas. That's pretty much the only reason I can see giving him a shot. As much as he is a nice guy, he is insanely slow, clumsy and at 29, is a write off in my opinion. I don't see him making their team at all, but I will wish him good luck in Big D.
