It what was already a hard week for the Ottawa area, news now comes that Pat Burns has finally lost his battle to cancer and has passed away. He of course was a police officer in Gatineau before becoming a coach, and also coached the Hull Olympiques for several years.
Burns, won the Jack Adams award for coach of the year on 3 seperate occassions, and won one Stanley Cup in 2005 with New Jersey before being forced to resign because of health concerns that shortened his concerns. There was even some talk of him taking over the Sens a few seasons ago, though it didn't amount to anything because he was not well and couldn't handle the travel etc.
It's too bad the Hockey Hall of Fame really dropped the ball and didn't put him in before he passed. It was a stupid, pointless protest on their part not to allow a clear HOFer in while he could still enjoy it.
Pat Burns was 58. Rest in peace Pat.
Thoughts on his passing and his career?
