Spezza Saves Us, Then Screws Us

The Sens were left for dead, down 3-0 to the Atlanta Thrashers before a few things went down. First off, Daniel Alfredsson opened the scoring and broke his 10 game pointless streak, which was very nice to see just before the end of the 2nd. Then Chris Neil scored a jam in hardworking goal to bring us to within one. We had some hope.

Then Jason Spezza was hooked and awarded a penalty shot. In all honesty, I didn't expect him to convert it, but to my surprise, he did, going top shelf on Pavelec to tie the game at 3's with 12 minutes left to play. The stage was set for a comeback, with Spezza as the hero. Cut to the disaster.

We make it to overtime, earning a point we had no business getting, but with one stupid play, the game was over and a fan base was fuming. Jason Spezza took the puck behind our net and began skating on a rush, he crossed centre ice and then into their zone, before doing what Jason Spezza tends to do, which is to make a no look drop pass. And with that a breakaway was created for Atlanta and the puck was in the back of our net. Game over! Sens lose 4-3 in OT.

And that ladies and gentleman are the 2 sides of Jason Spezza. A very nice talent, and a guy who still doesn't get it. Tonight he got us a point, and cost us the game, which is a perfect metaphor for his frustrating career so far. One step forward, two steps back.

Thoughts on the game?
