Shannon Gets Call From Uncle Sam

Ryan Shannon during action for Team USA at 2009 IIHF World Championship
Unrestricted free agent to be Ryan Shannon, was today named to Team USA's 2011 World Championship roster for the upcoming tournament in Slovakia. He also represented his country at the 2009 World's and in the 2003 World Jr's.

Congrats to Ryan for the honor and for a nice end to his season where he really picked up his play. Unfortunately for him, I've been told by many in the know that he likely won't be brought back next season. Good luck wherever you end up and have a nice tournament, just not against Canada.

Nick Foligno was reprotedly on their interest list as well for Team USA, but for some reason he let them know in advance he wouldn't be interested in participating. After all, he has to spend the off season working on being co-ordinated and not falling every 2 minutes.

Thoughts on Shannon lacing em up for the US?

Yeah I heard that Foligno really wants to spend time training in the off-season to focus on the Sens. I think he realizes he was too inconsistent and is trying to get better. Good for him.

Also, I think he is getting married or something...
