GDP #7: Sens v Jets

The Senators are back at it tonight, trying to avoid a third straight game giving up a touchdown at home. The opponent tonight are the Winnipeg Jets 2.0, who are also struggling and one of the league's worst teams. I think we all knew we were in for a long season, but some of the efforts so far just isn't acceptable for people getting paid millions of dollars. The competition tonight is more their speed, so hopefully the game is a bit closer ce soir.

It's funny how a change in location can make you change a bit more about a game isn't it? I wouldn't have cared about a game with Atlanta, but now I care quite a bit more because it's another Canadian team. Weird I know. I can't explain it either.

Ondrej Pavelec (who was in net that time he made over 50 saves against us on Halloween a few years ago) and Craig Anderson are the starting goalies tonight, despite Pavelec playing in Toronto last night.

The "big" news for the Senators tonight is that Jesse Winchester will make his season debut. I don't think it will have much of an impact since he's basically an 4th liner in the NHL, but that's where we're at as a team. Thrilled a 4th liner is back. I'll give you one thing, at least he will play hard. In other news, Sergei Gonchar re-enters the lineup as well. Brian Lee and Zenon Konopka are the victims and are healthy scratches tonight.

I would do the lines and defensive pairings but they have been changed so much over the past few games it doesn't even seem to matter. They will be tuned throughout the game and no one has lasted very long with anyone.

Local Flavor: No players from Ottawa or any former Sens on the Jets, but there is Zach Bogosian, who is from nearby Massena, NY and grew up a Sens fan.

Prediction: The Jets are only one point clear of us and they played last night, which means we should be able to take advantage of them in the 3rd period, but we all remember what happened when Colorado played the night before and we played them right? But with this team, it's no guarantee what team will show up. The wild card is Pavelec, who is more than capable of stealing a game. I think the Jets build on a strong performance last night and edge the Sens tonight 4-2 with an empty netter.

Record this season: 4-2 with zero exact scores predicted

TV: The game will be on Sportsnet Sens @ 7:30pm  and not regular Sportsnet due to the World Series, so take note
