Alfie Named Captain For Sweden

The good news is Daniel Alfredsson is still captain, the bad news is we don't know if it will be for the Ottawa Senators next season still. It was however announced today that Alfredsson will captain the Swedish entry at the upcoming IIHF World Championship being co-hosted by Sweden and Finland. It shows he still has the desire to play and compete at a high level, but perhaps the grind of an 82 game regular season will be too much for the 39 year old, especially with only a million dollars coming his way in 2012-13.

Alfredsson has represented his country on 14 occasions throughout his career, most notably winning the gold medal at the 2006 Olympics, where he contributed 5 goals and 5 helpers in just 8 games. In 54 career games for the 3 crowns, Alfredsson has 18 goals and 22 assists, good for 40 points in his country's colors.
