Foligno Dealt To Columbus For Methot

Nick Foligno's time in Ottawa has come to an end, as he has been dealt to the Columbus Blue Jackets for defenceman Marc Methot. The Senators have been after Methot for several years and he helps fill a need on our backend at the moment with Kuba and Carkner departing today, though I'm not convinced he is top 4 worthy at all yet. Helping his cause of course is that Methot is an Ottawa native. He has to be pretty thrilled at the homecoming no doubt. He is signed for 3 more years at a 3 million cap hit.

Foligno, who's just 24 had run his course as a player in my opinion and has already reached his peak for me. His point production last year was impressive with 47 but he lacked the skill and foot speed to ever be a consistent contributing player. He is a 3rd line guy that can play 1st/2nd line type game at times, but is also invisible at many others. He also struggled with discipline, often taking horrible penalties that easily could have been avoided.

By all accounts he's a great guy, works hard and has a big heart for the game, but I am not sad to see him go. Couple that with him being an RFA, I imagine the Sens looked at the salary comparables they may have had to pony up and decided it wasn't worth it. I concur. Best of luck in Columbus Nicky Figs.

Thoughts on the deal?

Hopefully he does better in Columbus but Murray had to make some room for Stone, Silverberg, and/or Zibanajad
