Gryba Re-Ups

The Ottawa Senators announced today that they have come to terms with bruising defenceman Eric Gryba on a 2 year, 2 way deal, though at the present time terms have not been made public. The former restricted free agent's previous deal was for $62,500 in the AHL and an NHL cap hit of $622,500, so one would safely predict he likely has the same NHL salary with a bump in his AHL salary as a reward for his strong play.

The 24 year old Gryba had 20 points in 73 games last year, while adding 98 penalty minutes for an all around fine season filled with career highs. The Saskatoon native was also a key member of the 2011 Calder Cup winning team and will be challenging for a regular spot in the NHL at this years training camp. On a personal note I was very impressed with him at last years camp and I expect him to be given every opportunity to make the team. Think of him as Matt Carkner's replacement but with more upside and skill.
