Opening Day @ Winnipeg
The day we've all been waiting for is finally here. Sure it took an extra 3 months but what's done is done. It's time to shift our focus to the team, as the Senators open their 2013 season this afternoon in tropical Winnipeg against the Jets at 3pm. What we do know is the Jets missed the playoffs last year, but had one of the NHL's best home records, so this will be a tough game. I won't get into a huge preview but I know many of you have been asking and tweeting me some questions about the lineup, so I will do my best to clear it all up quickly for you.
Let's start on the back end where to no one's surprise, Craig Anderson gets the nod in goal, with Robin Lehner dressing as his back up, which means Ben Bishop will watch from the press box. The number one defensive pairing is Karlsson-Methot, then Gonchar-Phillips, and the 3rd pairing will be Andre Benoit with Patrick Wiercioch. Kanata native Mark Borowiecki sits out as a healthy scratch.
As far as the forward lines go, the top 6 are set but that's all we know for sure at the moment. The top line will be Michalek-Spezza-Silfverberg and the 2nd line will be Latendresse-Turris-Alfredsson, at least to start that is. The 3rd and 4th lines are anyone's guess at this point but I'm leaning towards a Greening-Smith-Neil 3rd line, with a Regin-O'Brien-Condra 4th line. Kaspars Daugavins is the odd man out to start the season.
So there's your quick lineup update and all you need to know to get ready for the first game of the year. Be sure to follow me on twitter @SensTown and come hang out during the game, where I'll be answering questions, making comments, jokes and a ton more. See you at 3pm. Game On!
