Game Day Thoughts

The Sens road trip continues as they're in Toronto for another edition of the Battle of Ontario and as has become almost custom this season, there are not shortage of story lines heading into this one. It's also getting into that time of the season where the trade deadline is approaching, so the rumors are flying. Read on as I touch on a few trade rumors and things you need to know heading into tonight's game at the ACC, where the Sens look to snap a 3 game losing streak.

-Milan Michalek will suit up after a long absence due to an injury, providing some stability and experience, along with some potential scoring. Needless to say we more than need some top end talent back in our lineup, especially once who had 35 goals last year. The rumor mill says he isn't 100% yet, but he is ready to give it a go. Let's hope it pays off.

-Prospect Mark Stone gets the call to play his first game of the season as well. He would have been here a long time ago but while playing in Bingo he was also hit with the injury bug and missed significant time. He's slotted to play some regular minutes but I think his greatest impact may be felt on the powerplay. I'm not sold that he can be a regular contributor in the NHL due to his poor skating, but the PP will suit his considerable offensive skill more. I'm very interested to see how we will play that's for sure.

-With the Sens having 3 NHL caliber goaltenders, it's no surprise that trade rumors are heating up, especially with them having so many glaring needs with all of their injuries at the moment. The most likely candidate to be moved is Ben Bishop. He's played spectacularly in his past few starts and people around the league have noticed and his price is rising. Murray is likely to hold onto him and look to deal him as the deadline nears.

-The Bruins are still hoping the Senators fall out of playoff contention and unload Daniel Alfredsson to them for a long playoff run in Beantown. I don't see it happening. For one, we're still in the race as I write this and two, I don't see Alfie leaving at this point either. In fact, I see him coming back next year still.

-As for rumors of people the Sens may want to acquire, I continue to hear Corey Perry's name creep up. If you recall, Bryan Murray drafted him while in Anaheim and has always been a fan of the former league MVP. Ottawa would love to end a top end offensive guy either now or in the offseason and CP more than fits the bill. With the multitude of prospects the Sens have the assets to make a deal with anyone. The word on the street is it might take something along the lines of Mika Zibanejad and a 1st/prospect to pry him away. I'd likely make the move. We have a ton of cap room and players like Perry don't grow on trees.

That's it for now but be sure to come back on twitter tonight for all the fun during the game. Follow me @SensTown and thanks for reading.
