Benoit Gets Masterton Nod

The dream season of 28 year old St Albert native Andre Benoit just got a little more dreamy, as the professional hockey writers association have made the journeyman defenceman their 2013 Ottawa nominee for the Bill Masterton trophy.

In case you forgot, the Bill Masterton Memorial Trophy is an annual award voted on by the Professional Hockey Writers' Association and given to the player who best exemplifies the qualities of perseverance, sportsmanship, and dedication to hockey. Last years Sens nominee was none other than Alfie.

Quite the honor for the hometown guy who finally made good and cracked an NHL lineup, playing in 33 games this season, putting up 3 goals (shoulda been 4, MTL goal waived off) and 7 assists, good for 10 points. He has been a healthy scratch as of late, but that shouldn't take away from what was a very productive first season.

Best of luck to Andre and congrats on the nomination. Thanks for reading and be sure to follow me on twitter @SensTown
