Gonchar Moved To Big D

In what was a move few saw coming, Senators defenceman Sergei Gonchar was dealt this afternoon to the Dallas Stars, in exchange for a conditional 6th round draft pick in this year's draft. The condition being that Gonchar signs with Dallas. So basically if he does sign, we get a 6th, if he doesn't we get squat. Still, it seems like a decent move, as opposed to losing him for nothing in a months time.

This obviously goes to show how far away the two sides were in negotiations, since Murray wouldn't even bother trying to re-up him for a few more weeks. There's also talk of #55 signing in the KHL, which may have been a factor. All in all he played 3 seasons for us and was above average. Not amazing, but decent. I'd say all sides have no regrets, but it was time to move on.
