Don't look now but suddenly your Ottawa Senators are on fire. Well for them anyway. It seemed like they were out of it a week or so ago, and realistically they still are, but the Sens have taken 6 of the past 7 possible points heading into Wednesday's matchup against the Islanders, who are still 8 back on Ottawa. Of course, once again with just 7 games left and still 5 points back of a wild car birth, every game is a must win. With that said, Tuesday was a busy day in Senators land, with an award nomination and 2 new signings.
-Erik Karlsson was named today as the Senators nominee for the Bill Masterton award. He was voted by the Professional Hockey Writers Association chapter of Ottawa. The Bill Masterton Memorial Trophy is an annual award under the trusteeship of the PHWA and is given to the NHL player who best exemplifies the qualities of perseverance, sportsmanship and dedication to hockey. Ironically, the Red Wings nominee this year is Daniel Alfredsson.
-Speaking of Karlsson, his name was used in an April Fool's Day prank by Swiss club HC Davos, who pretended to sign the star defenceman. Not bad, for hockey anyway.
-The Sens also inked NCAA free agent Garrett Thompson to a 1 year deal and signed 2012 3rd rounder Chris Driedger to a 3 year entry level contract.
