MacArthur Re-Ups For 5 More

It's been a bit of a slow summer here in the capital, but Sens Army got some good news this afternoon, as forward Clarke MacArthur has signed up for 5 more years in Ottawa, making him a Senators for at least 6 more years total. The former Leaf shone in his first season in the red and black, potting a surprising 24 goals and 55 points, while showing major chemistry with centre Kyle Turris.

The new deal is for 5 years and 23.5 million, making it 4.65m cap hit over the deal. The first 2 years will be 4.25 and the last 4.75. It seems like a solid deal for both parties. MacArthur gets some much needed stability and financial security, while the Sens lock up a core key guy, without having to fight off the other teams across the league who surely would have been interested in his services. It also locks up a fan favorite, when the fans have become fed up with us losing star players in consecutive seasons.

I really have nothing bad to say about the signing. It was much needed and it shows some top players still want to call Ottawa home, and sometimes you have to pay a bit more to lock a guy like that up. That's what the Sens did, as they should have. Everyone is now free to buy your #16 jerseys. He ain't going anywhere.

Finally a reason to smile in Sens Town. Thanks for reading and be sure to follow me on twitter @SensTown
